Its rather unusual name can be traced back to Sir Edward Carne, an advisor to King Henry VIII, who bought the local Ewenny Priory in 1545.
The original inn on this site was built by the Carne family in the 18th Century and named after the family coat of arms which features a pelican plucking at her breast and letting the blood to fall into the mouths of the chicks at her feet, symbolising Christ feeding his flock with his blood.
The pub was reopened in Spring 2017 after being closed for six months. We'd love to find out more about the stories and history of the place, so if you've got a tale to tell, let us know...
